Nick Sutic from Detroit
Custom Body Works has been involved
in the smash repair and restoration industry for
almost 15 yrs and is not resting on his laurels
just yet. He completed his apprenticeship in a small
shop that housed 15 vehicles at a time and was taught
air dry enamel and acrylic lacquer. The company
has now ceased trading, but was named A.A CUSTOM
SMASH REPAIRS in St Peters.
Anthony
Atkinson the company owner was an acrylic man
through and through and taught Nick the finer
points of this forgotten art. Anthony had over
30 years experience in the game and passed all
his knowledge and experience down to an eager
spray painter willing to learn the trade. His
boss stayed true to the old acrylic but the team
also used the Spies Hecker 2 pack paint system.
Nick over the ensuing years had mastered the Spies
Hecker range of paints and some time later the
business switched to the Spartan Eurobase paint
system as a cost effective means of saving however
not compromising the quality of paint finish.
After attending numerous paint detailing seminars
and courses, Nick had a solid amount of concentrated
learning under his belt.
Nick
then expanded his horizons further into the field
of industrial coatings where one project consisted
of construction and paint of all structural beams
inside new apartments at Woolloomooloo Waters
Apartments. Heavy duty coatings after 2 years
proved boring and Nick returned to a mates shop
in Artarmon (IMAGE AUTO BODY) to get back into
the groove once more. After discovering the hectic
pace of the north side unbearable he decided to
return somewhere local where the focus is quality
not quantity and accepted a job offer at E.R MCNAMARA
SMASH REPAIRS ARNCLIFFE.
After
working at E.R MCNAMARA for the past 6 years and
attaining the role of senior painter and mastering
the DUPONT range of paint Nick decided to open
his own venture named DETROIT
CUSTOM BODY WORKS
Nick
is also a proud owner of a 1972
XA GT FALCON SEDAN which is under going a
full paint detail and partial dismantle to get
the vehicle back on the road.
Nick’s
area of expertise includes complete re-spray work,
buffing & detailing, paint scratch repairs
and full back to metal restore. When it comes
to paint projects the sky is the limit and Nick
has close contacts should you require airbrush,
